And then there were ten Young Designers!

Durban - The crème de la crème of young fashion talent showcased their designs at the semi finals of the Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award, presented by LIPSY LONDON, with just ten making their way to the final round of the region's biggest student fashion competition.

It was a big night for the twenty-five young designers who had evidently spent hours creating an ensemble that they believed best encompassed the Vodacom Durban July “The Big Screen” theme.

But at the end of the glamorous fashion show only ten designs that represented the very best from design colleges around KZN got the thumbs up from the panel of fashion industry judges.

The different designs ranged from pieces inspired by movies like the Wizard of Oz and King Kong, to classic Hollywood ensembles, to colourful Bollywood queens.

Stylish judge and Invited Designer Zama Mathe was excited by what she witnessed on the catwalk saying, “I loved the way the students constructed their garments, you could see it was well thought out and they interpreted the theme well.”

Casey Jeanne, another Invited Designer and previous Young Designer, was really impressed by the pool of talent and thought the selection of designers were a very strong group. “There were a lot of versatile designs and different ideas and interpretations. I loved the students’ work!”

The lavish evening kicked off with a compelling range from Lipsy, London, and a range of stylish collections from the Durban Fashion Fair concluded the star-studded show, giving the audience a taste of what to wear to the Africa's Greatest Horseracing Event on Saturday 5 July.

The final winner of the Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award will be crowned on race day and will go on to receive a flurry of amazing prizes. Each of the ten finalists will receive R2000 cash from Gold Circle.

The ten Vodacom Durban July Young Designer finalists are Divan Brits (Inscape), Talitha Retallick (DUT), Pamela Ntokozo Ngubane (Lindiwe Khuzwayo), Pamela Ndala (DUT), Jackie Staszowski (Inscape), Rebecca Bramuzzo (DUT), Megan Susan Morris (DUT), Blaire Lynne Hill (DUT), Racine Denny (DUT), Sadie Bosworth Smith (DUT).
