Mystics and beans guide
us to their best bet
Durban - As the countdown to
Africa's Greatest Horseracing Event the 2010 Vodacom Durban July enters
its final hours, the talk of the town is which of the twenty main race
runners will cross the finish post first.
In an effort to get a sneak peek at who the new champion will be, punters
and fun lover have once again been turning to unusual, mystical and novel
ways of trying to predict a winner, with mixed results.
Hillcrest's own spiritual guider Brenda Lindon pulled out her Tarot cards
to present the cards calling on four specific runners.
The first card was number eight with the word "power" on it and, while
this might seem to allude to 2008 champ Pocket Power, it seems rather to
suggest that runner eight Red Rake will win the big race. Corroborating
this is the fact that the card was largely red!
Second came number twenty presenting "truth". Runner twenty is the Paul
Lafferty trained Goat whose jockey silks matched the cards rich purple
colour.
Third was number ten of "destiny" signifying the runner River Jetez who so
happens to be the full sister of champion Pocket Power. This 10 card is
known as the Wheel of Life and Fortune and presents the female form in a
wheel surrounded by a bright yellow aura, which will match the bright
yellow silks set to be worn by River Jetez’s jockey Jeff Lloyd.
The fourth and final card presented was the number nine with the wording
"solitude". The ninth runner in the Vodacom Durban July is Mike de Kock
trained Ancestral Fore.
Each year twenty beans are grown in individual pots labelled with a
particular horse in mind and are closely followed on growth and strength
in the weeks running up to raceday.
In the past few days the Mike de Kock trained Rudra has blossomed into the
lead, overtaking early leaders Fabiani and Happy Valley who were out of
the stalls first at the Gallops earlier this month.
Even sangoma Thembisani Xolani from Clermont, who threw his bones in the
traditional forecasting at the Gallops earlier this month.
Xolani seemed to agonise over the field, before predicting that Number 7 (Orbison)
would win the big race, followed by Fabiani, Vertical Takeoff and Flying
Tristram - none of them feature amongst the top five currently topping the
bookmakers boards.
The current favourite Irish Flame was on offer at odds of 4/1 after the
gallops, with Bold Silvano, River Jetez, Fort Vogue and 2008 champ Pocket
Power attracting support from the punters.
Anyone wanting to get in touch with Brenda Lindon of "On Angel Wings" can

spiritual truth holds monthly workshops in the art of spiritual guidance.
The Vodacom Durban July takes place at Greyville Racecourse on Saturday,
31 July 2010. More information can be found at www.vodacomdurbanjuly.co.za
