Racing gets under way at behind-closed-doors Vodacom Durban July

Durban - The ten race programme that makes up the 2021 behind-closed-doors Vodacom Durban July day card got under way in superb racing conditions, with warm windless weather at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse.

For the second year running the race meeting is being hosted in front of empty stands as the racing industry complies with the current lockdown regulations, limiting access to just trainers, jockeys, core racing personnel and media, with the owners unable to be at the course to watch their thoroughbreds in action on the big day.

As the anticipation ahead of the 125th Vodacom Durban July builds, media on course took time to congratulate photographer Anita Akal, who is shooting her fiftieth consecutive Vodacom Durban July today.

The main race, the R2 million Vodacom Durban July, gets under way at 3pm.
