Bouman back on top
Durban - Matt Bouman took home the title of the Fenn Surfski Challenge on
Friday evening, whilst regaining his position as leader of the Varsity
College Marine Surfski Series.
Paddlers
lined up at the start on North beach with fierce intentions of tackling the
choppy downwind conditions. Bouman powered ahead using his expert skills to
get away from U23 marathon world champ Grant van der Walt taking advantage of
the light North Easter.
Bouman
maintained his two minute lead throughout the race and motored to the finish
at Ushaka beach not forgetting the trail of contenders on his tail. Van der
Walt finished in second behind Bouman, followed by visiting paddler Marc
Holtzhausen from the South Coast who came in third position.
Michele Eder
cemented her series position by winning the ladies race which skyrocketed her
to the top of the ladies leader board. The Toti contender pulled away from
Donna Winter early on, leaving Winter to settle for second place, leaving
junior Kylie Winterburn to claim third position.
In the doubles race
Herman Chalupsky and Andre Pohl
landing their third consecutive win, with
Warren Jacobs / Jefferey Smith
coming in second place a full three minutes behind.
Whilst reveling in the fun surf
conditions Gary Uys came in to take the title for the 4km short course, and
Brett Holding and
Judd Reid claimed the top doubles position.
The fourth race of the Varsity College Marine Surf Ski Series takes place
next Friday evening 12 February at 5:30 from Ushaka Beach.
