Fathers Day fun lined up at The Stables Wine Estate Winter Solstice
Festival
With Fathers Day on Sunday falling on the winter solstice, The Stables
Wine Estate in Nottingham Road is providing an opportunity to warm the
hearts of fathers at their annual Winter Solstice Festival.
Anticipating the shortest day of the year being chilly in the
KwaZulu-Natal midlands, the annual midwinter festival will lay on a
feast of hearty winter food, steaming glűhwein, hot chocolate for the
youngsters, and a live band to keep the spirits high around the
bonfires.
The day is also expected to see a number of the visitors to the region
for the rugby test match in Durban on Saturday between the Springboks
and the British and Irish Lions converging on the farm on the Midlands
Meander.
Entry to the festival is free, and visitors will be able to taste wines
from the Estate as usual, and enjoy some of their popular winter chill
beaters like their Jeripico and Drakensberg Tawny port.
“Winter Solstice day is the day we turn the corner on the chilly midyear
season when all the vines are dormant,” said winemaker Tiny van Niekerk.
“After the solstice the outlook is built around the anticipation of
spring and the budding of the vines, so the mood at the solstice
festival is always cheerful and one of our annual highlights.”
“This is a chance to warm the cockles of dad’s heart with an afternoon
of hearty food and traditional Austrian style glűhwein, and enjoy some
rollicking good music with the whole family,” he added. “That’s our
recipe to beating the mid-winter chills!”
The festival starts at 12h30 on Sunday afternoon. Booking is strongly
advised. For reservations or directions call
