Nottingham Road - KwaZulu-Natal wine lovers have been offered a rare opportunity to take part in an entry-level wine academy course at The Stables Wine Estate outside Nottingham Road, as part of the estates drive to make wine more accessible and to develop a truly unique KwaZulu-Natal wine culture.

The two day course will be run by Les Sutcliffe from the cape Wine Academy will be held at The Stables Estate on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 February for a very limited number of participants.

“We are thrilled to have Sutcliffe agree to run his “Introduction to South African Wine” course for us, as there are a growing number of KZN wine lovers who want to learn more about appreciating wine,” said Judy van Niekerk.

“This is the most credible wine course available, and is widely recognised as the first step towards the ultimate Wine Master qualification,” Van Niekerk added.

“The two day course will include tasting wines and will be as entertaining as it will be informative,” she added.

Topics that will be covered will include the history of wine in South Africa, and the unique KwaZulu-Natal industry, viticulture and winemaking, and an understanding the various red and white wine cultivars, and techniques for tasting wines.

The lectures will include tutored wine tastings throughout, and the two day course will conclude with an exam on the Sunday afternoon. Successful candidates will be awarded a Cape Wine Academy Certificate of Competence, which is a widely recognised entry level qualification.
