Karkloof Classic Enduro set to lure adrenalin seekers

Karkloof – The 2021 Sappi Karkloof Classic Trail Festival will have plenty to offer the adrenalin seeking enduro riders with the inclusion of the Stihl Enduro on Saturday, 9 October giving the downhill riders the opportunity to get their fix on some of the region’s famous descent trails.

Over the years since its inception, the enduro event on the Karkloof Classic weekend has continued to garner support from both the hardcore enduro riders as well as MTB riders that are looking for some excitement outside of the various MTB marathon rides.

The trail team has been busy working on the various timed Enduro stages and trail designer Nick Stubbs thinks the changes and additions will make the course even more enjoyable.

“We’ve made quite a few changes to this year’s stages with two new stages and a change in order,” Stubbs said.

“Riders will start with Kira’s Trail this year and then we’ve added and upgraded The Bachelor stage which will be ridden as the second stage.

“We’ve also spent a lot of time working on Richert’s Realm which has also been given an upgrade and will be the third stage of the enduro.

“The fourth stage will be an entirely new section of trail called Prodigal Son and Hylton Turvey has come in and created this for us and it’s been given a lot of praise since it’s been opened.

“Riders will finish with Isikhova as the fifth and final stage of the race.”

The Enduro will cover around 32km of trails and Stubbs is excited to welcome back the riders to an event that has become a popular choice because of the exciting trails involved.

“I think that the trails are doable for people of all abilities and obviously the faster you go the more technical they become, which is what you want.

“We have also introduced an Enduro Lite this year which will only be three stages to encourage all riders to get involved.”

Along with the weekend’s MTB events, the Enduro will take on a new shape in 2021 and Stubbs is happy that they can shake up the trail network when they need to.

“We put a lot of effort into maintaining the trails throughout the year and so we don’t have difficulty in creating new routes.

“That’s the beauty of having such an extensive trail network,” he added.

The 2021 Sappi Karkloof Classic Trail Festival takes place at the Marriott Karkloof Country Club on Saturday 9 and 10 October.
