Mini-cricket coaches and administrators celebrated at Provincial Seminar

Durban - Hollywoodbets Kingsmead hosted a successful KFC mini-cricket Provincial Seminar on Friday where Coaches and Coordinators were celebrated for the role they play in producing the next generation of cricketers.

KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union CEO Heinrich Strydom said the KFC mini-cricket is the flagship development programme in the country and it is important to recognise the people that sacrifice so much time to develop young cricketers.

The way this programme has evolved is incredible, Strydom said. KFC mini-cricket is coached on a volunteer basis and to see people putting in their time and effort is truly humbling.

Valley of a Thousand Hills KFC mini-cricket chairperson Sandile Zondi said working with children is not really about rewards, the main reward is to see the young boys and girls become professional cricketers and for them to see school as a joyful place.

KwaZulu-Natal KFC mini-cricket Coordinator Horatius Sokhanyile understands the importance of the role that teachers play in helping the programme grow.

I take my hat off to the teachers who sacrifice their time to make sure that KFC mini-cricket continues to prosper in KZN and today is all about them, Sokhanyile said.

Cricket South Africa and KFC celebrated a decade long partnership of developing cricket in the country earlier this year in the Western Cape.

Coach of the month award recipient, Brigitta Wellman from the Ilembe district said the KFC mini-cricket programme helps the kids with social and personal development.

I enjoy being a KFC mini-cricket coach, Wellman said. I love to see the growth among the children and how their passion grows as their understanding grows too.

Administrator of the year, Ahmed Ameer appreciated the recognition for all the hard work that has gone into the next generation of cricketers in the province.

I would like to thank Cricket South Africa and the KZN Cricket Union. To be recognised with an award like this is heart-warming and it is something I will cherish for years to come and will definitely keep me in the programme.

"I hope KFC mini-cricket continues to touch the lives of children across South Africa."
