KZN teams well poised after Provincial T20 Cup DayTwo

Durban - Both the Hollywoodbets KZN Inland and Hollywood KZN Coastal teams picked up solid victories before slipping to closely-fought defeats on the second day of the 2019 CSA Provincial T20 Cup on Saturday.

Hollywood KZN Coastal squared up to the table-topping Northerns outfit at Willowmoore Park, and after being inserted by Northerns, started brightly with Blayde Capell contributing 30 off 22 balls as they banked 40 inside the first five overs.

Northerns took wickets at regular intervals, throttling back the Durban side, until Prenelan Subrayen got together with Andile Mogkakane and basted an unbeaten 61 run partnership for the seventh wicket that took them to an imposing 172/5 in their 20 overs.

In reply Daryn Dupavillon had Tony De Zorzi back in the changeroom in the first over, before Jonathan Vandiar dug in for Northerns.

Prenelan Subrayen then put the pressure back on Northerns with a typically miserly spell while a brace from Thula Ngcobo left Northerns with too much to do and they fell ten runs short at the end of their allotted twenty overs.

The Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal side's second match of the day against Easterns ended in thrilling fashion as tied scored at the end of each sides allotted twenty overs sent the match into an eliminator over.

The Durbanites were reeling at 11/3 before Ethan Bosch came to the crease and turned the match around, and with help from Michael Erlank and Prenelan Subrayen got them to 138/6.

In reply Eastern  Wesley Marshall started like a house on fire before being silenced by Lifa Ntanzi before three wickets from Thula Ngcobo left the two sides all square and forced the match into an eliminator over.

In that decider Easterns posted 19 runs off Daryn Dupavillon's bowling and in reply the KZN side could only muster nine runs.

In Kimberley Hollywoodbets KZN Inland won the toss and put the Northern Cape side in to bat first.

Robbie Frylinck struck in his second over, then Nduduzo Mfosa grabbed two wickets and Kerwin Mungroo took three key wickets to leave the locals stuttering at 129/7 in their twenty overs.

The Maritzburg-based side were merciless in their measured response.

Grant Roelofsen took on the bowling as he posted a fifty run opening stand with Cody Chetty before falling for 33 at a strike rate on 157. Chetty went on to record his half century and with Sohail Mahmoud took the match away from the Northern Cape outfit to win by eight wickets.

Later in the day they squared up to a Boland side desperate to turn their tournament's fortunes around. Cody Chetty and Grant Roelofsen got the Durbanites off to a solid start, Roelofsen falling for 47 with the Inland total on 86 in the ninth over, and then Mangaliso Mosehle added a sting in the tail to get his side to 167/5.

In reply Boland started solidly until Nduduso Mfosa and left-arm spinner Kyle Nipper started reigning them in. Boland skipper Ferisco Adams held his sides challenge together with an unbeaten 80 to get them across the line in the final over.

The results of the second days play had very little overall impact in the logs in the two pools. Hollywoodbets KwaZulu-Natal Inland still head up Pool B while Hollywoodbets KwaZulu-Natal Coastal are third with one pool match to play on Sunday.
