Miller KZNs big winner at CSA Awards

Durban Proteas and Hollywoodbets Dolphins batsman David Miller was awarded the Standard Bank T20 International Cricketer of the Year award at the 2019 Cricket South Africa Awards on the weekend while there were a number of other awards won by KZN cricketers.

Miller was in fine form for the Proteas during the T20I season where he averaged 36 with a top score of 65 not out against Pakistan at the Wanderers.

The 30 year old will continue to be a vital cog in the Proteas T20 side as the team looks forward to the 2020 ICC T20 World Cup in Australia under new management.

Also amongst the awards were two young cricketers from KZN Inland.

Hilton College star Michael Booth was awarded Momentum Under 17 Player of the Year following his performance at the national under 17 week at the end of 2018.

St Charles College captain Wesley Madhivere was also in the awards. He won the award for Coca-Cola Schools T20 Cricketer of the Year.

Madhivere led his St Charles side to the finals of the Coca-Cola Schools T20 Challenge where they lost to a talented St Stithians outfit.

CEO of KZN Cricket Heinrich Strydom was full of praise for the cricketers from KZN that received awards.

Its great to see players from KZN being rewarded for hard work and good performance, Strydom said.

Dave (Miller) has become such an important part of the national limited overs teams and we hope that he can continue the good form both for the national side and the Hollywoodbets Dolphins.

For the younger players to be recognised at a national level is also hugely encouraging in that it validates the work that we have put in to improving the cricketing pipe line through the province.

We hope that these players continue to make an impact nationally and provincially, he added.

In addition to the awards won by the various players, KZN Cricket fared well on the annual CSA Scorecard that ranks all of the affiliate unions in a number of different criteria.

Consolidating from their previous seasons efforts the union placed third overall in the incentive results, which includes a shared first place in the governance and strategic focus categories.

In terms of the operational scorecard results KZNCU finished on top in terms of the management of club cricket and provincial academies.

It was another good season for KZN Cricket from an administrative perspective, Strydom commented.

To be recognised and placed so highly amongst all of the unions is a reflection on how hard we have worked to make KZN Cricket one of the powerhouses of cricket in this country.

I am incredibly proud of all my staff and we are looking forward to continuing this work and improving in the upcoming season.
