A few fresh faces in KZN Academy for 2019

Durban - The KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union have announced the names of the players that will make up the 2019 SollyM Sports KZN Coastal Academy for 2019.

The KZN Coastal Academy has always played an important role in feeding players in the semi-professional set-up and has been vital in producing players that are ready to make that step up to the higher levels.

KZN Coastal Academy coach, Mduduzi Mbatha said additions to the Academy side include the likes of Steven Naidoo, Matthew Pollard and Carl Heunis who were instrumental in the fortunes of KZN Coastal in the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Week.

“Steven Naidoo got a hat-trick in the Coke Week, Matthew Pollard and Heunis were part of the team that did well in the 2018 Coke week,” Mbatha said.

“The three guys will join a group that have already had a year in the set-up and will hopefully produce goods for us during their time with the academy.”

There are a handful of young players at KZN who will move directly into the semi-professional ranks having finished school at the end of 2018, however Mbatha is excited by the prospects of his academy stars for 2019.

“The amazing thing is that there are guys that are right on the fringe of playing the KZN and we want these guys to be as prepared as possible when they get the chance at that level.

“We have got a bunch that are keen to work hard and get better,” Mbatha added.

The group is currently preparing for the Cricket South Africa Franchise Academies Week. The tournament will take place from 4 March to 8 March in Oudtshoorn.

The KZN Coastal outfit will also lock horns with KZN Inland Academy in three 50 over matches at the Chatsworth Oval from the 5th of February to the 7th.

KZN Coastal Academy full squad:
Nhlanhla Dlamini, Jason Wagener, Jason Kraft, James Stamatis, Lungelo Dlamini, Nikhil Prem, Daelen Fynn, Steven Naidoo (new), Matthew Pollard (new), Chad Scott, Yves Kamanzi, Khwezi Gumede, Carl Heunis (new), Mlungisi Gcado, Mzwandile Mkhize.
