KZN Cricket pay tribute to long-serving Doorasamy

Durban – The KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union has extended its condolences to the family and friends of the long-standing cricket stalwart Rajagopal Doorasamy who passed away suddenly on Friday 18th January.

Doorasamy has been a long-serving manual scoreboard operator at both the Chatsworth Oval and Kingsmead Cricket Stadium.

Doorasamy was assisting in putting on the covers for the Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal match against Western Province at the Chatsworth Oval when he collapsed and both the KZN staff and Western Province staff tried to resuscitate him. He passed away on the way to hospital.

“Gandhi (as he was affectionately known) was incredibly passionate about cricket and loved being part of the team at the Chatsworth Oval and Kingsmead,” KZN Coastal Cricket Services Manager Ritesh Ramjee said.

“On behalf of the KZNCU we extend our deepest sympathies to Gandhi’s family in this time of bereavement. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all.”
