Muthusamy bags five-for on second day in Kimberley
Durban - Hollywoodbets Dolphins all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy's
great form continued when he took his sixth first-class five wicket
haul, to go with a first innings half century, to restrict the VKB
Knights to 266 all out on day two of their 4-Day Franchise Series clash
in Kimberley on Tuesday.
Muthusamy's 62 in the first innings was crucial in helping the Dolphins
into the two run lead they had at the end of both sides' first innings.
He followed that up with 5/85 in 31.1 overs. Three of his wickets
included the heart of the Knights' batting line up - Keegan Petersen,
Pite van Biljoen and Patrick Kruger.
The hosts began the day on 24/2 and it didnít take long for the Dolphins
to pick up their first wicket when seamer Kerwin Mungroo had Grant
Mokoena trapped in front, LBW for 21.
Keegan Petersen and his captain Pite van Biljoen added 44 for the fourth
wicket before the latter was caught by Cody Chetty off the bowling of
Muthusamy for 34. The Knights were 82/4 in the 33rd over of the innings.
Van Bijoen and Patrick Kruger then managed to gain some momentum for the
hosts and put together a partnership of 68, but it was Muthusamy again
who put an end to the stand. Van Biljoen was caught by Eathan Bosch for
Kruger then followed soon after his captain, Muthusamy again doing the
damage. Captain Maharaj took the catch to get rid of Kruger for 21.
At that stage the Dolphins had the Knights 151/6 before Muthusamy bagged
his fourth when Shadley van Schalkwyk was also caught, this time by
Calvin Savage, for two.
At 155/7 Ryan McLaren and Rudi Second added 35 before Second was trapped
in front by skipper Maharaj.
From there the Knights provided resistance with a ninth wicket stand of
75 between McLaren and Duanne Olivier.
The Knights closed in on the Dolphins' first innings total before
Maharaj had McLaren and Muthusamy had Ottniel Baartman caught by Dane
Vilas respectively. Baartman gave Muthusamy his fifth wicket, and the
Knights a total of 266, a deficit of two runs.
Muthusamy ended with figures of 5/85, while there were also wickets for
Maharaj (2/73), Kerwin Mungroo (2/54) and Eathan Bosch (1/18).
In the process of bowling the Knights out inside the first 100 overs of
the innings, the Dolphins collected maximum bowling points for the
second consecutive match.
In reply the Dolphins were out of the blocks rapidly with both Sarel
Erwee and Vaughn van Jaarsveld scoring freely.
The pair put on 26 in just under six overs before Van Jaarsveld was
caught for a near run-a-ball 13 which included three boundaries.
Unfortunately for the Dolphins Cody Chetty fell for a single, but
fortunately that was the last wicket to fall and the Dolphins went to
Sarel Erwee will resume on Wednesday on 25 while night watchman Kerwin
Mungroo will continue his innings on 9.
The Dolphins head into the third day with a lead of 50 runs.
