Dolphins' win sets up T20 Challenge semi in JHB

Durban - A commanding five wicket win by the Hollywoodbets Dolphins against the WSB Cape Cobras at Kingsmead on Sunday, at the same time the Multiply Titans went down to the bizhub Highveld Lions at SuperSport Park, which sets up a semi-final for the Dolphins against the Lions at the Wanderers on Wednesday.

A typically abrasive knock from opener Vaughn van Jaarsveld on Sunday helped break the back of a fairly straight-forward chase with his 48 from just 31 deliveries helping the Dolphins to a dominant win.

The performance with the bat backed up a great bowling from all the bowlers. Rob Frylinck was the pick of the bowlers with 3/39 in his four while Keshav Maharaj was miserly with figures of 2 for 16 in his four.

It was a strong start from the Dolphins as they dismissed the dangerous Janneman Malan for 12 and David Bedingham soon after that for six.

Rob Frylinck was the man who did the early damage with both wickets, and the visitors were 27 for two in the fourth over.

The innings never got the momentum the Cobras were looking for and the Dolphins bowlers continued to strike fairly regularly.

Daryn Dupavillon produced a gem of a yorker to dismiss the dangerous JP Duminy for a single at the end of the sixth over.

Jason Smith and Kyle Verrynne tried to put a bit of a stand together for the fourth wicket but the bowling from the home side was pin-point and the partnership of 16 came off 24 deliveries before Verrynne was dismissed for 26, run out.

Aviwe Mgijima and George Linde fell in the same Keshav Maharaj over with the score on 57.

Vernon Philander scored 32 at the death while his captain added 17 which got the Cobras to 121 for seven.

Van Jaarsveld and Morné van Wyk started brightly scoring freely at the top of the order.

Their partnership of 55 in 38 balls went a long way to putting their side on track for victory.

The chase hit a bit of a speed bump on the way but the damage had been done and despite losing five wickets in their pursuit the Dolphins got home in the 16th over.

Senuran Muthusamy scored 19 not out while Rob Frylinck scored eight at the back end to help his side into a second T20 semi-final in as many years.
