Dolphins open their RAM SLAM account with win

Centurion - The highest ever total in a day T20 at SuperSport Park Centurion and a brilliant hundred from Sarel Erwee handed the Hollywoodbets Dolphins their first win of the 2017 RAM SLAM T20 Challenge against the WSB Cape Cobras by 15 runs on the DLS method on Sunday.

The Dolphins handed T20 debuts to left-arm spinner Smangaliso Nhlebela and young seamer Eathan Bosch for the clash on the highveld.

The Cape Cobras won the toss and put the Dolphins in to bat on a batting-friendly wicket in Centurion and Dolphins opener and RAM SLAMMER of the day Sarel Erwee thrashed a brilliant 103 not out from 58 balls, which along with a belligerent 67 from Khaya Zondo saw the Dolphins post a strong 231/2 from their 20 overs.

It was a bright start from the men from Durban with Sarel Erwee and Morné van Wyk starting well as the pair scored 27 off the first two overs before Van Wyk fell for 19 from seven balls.

Dane Vilas joined Erwee and the momentum continued with the right-hander hitting Vernon Philander for four off his first ball.

The duo then continued to dominate the Cobras bowling attack as they battered 67 runs for the second wicket with Vilas bludgeoning 32 from 21 deliveries before he was caught in the deep with the score on 95/2 after 9.2 overs.

The runs continued to flow for the Dolphins when captain Khaya Zondo joined Erwee.

A record stand of 136 from just over 10 overs between the two saw the Dolphins cruise past 200 runs as they set a formidable 231/2 in their 20 overs.

The Dolphins started well with the ball when the sides newest Protea Rob Frylinck claimed the prize scalp of Richard Levi for seven in the second over.

With the Cobras 11/1 the third and fourth overs were prosperous for the Dolphins as Keshav Maharaj claimed the wicket of Temba Bavuma and then JP Duminy was run out leaving the men from the Mother City reeling at 27/3 from four overs.

The ever-calm Hashim Amla continued on his way and he and Aviwe Mgjima started building a steady partnership before the weather turned and the game had to be reduced.

After the lightning threat had diminished the Cobras returned to the field needing 38 from 10 deliveries to win the game. A strong four deliveries meant that they needed 24 from the final six deliveries.

Andile Phehlukwayo was entrusted with the final over and he only conceded eight to hand his side the victory by 15 runs.
