Top restaurant to throw Christmas feast for local kids charity

Durban - Despite the fact that his restaurant is doing a roaring trade in the build-up to Christmas, chef Chris Black and his team will be hosting a special Christmas party at The Aubergine bistro for fifty underprivileged local children.

The lunchtime feast will be fully sponsored by Black for the fifty children and members of their immediate family members in the week before Christmas, in a collaboration with the management of the Hillcrest Aids Centre working in the greater Highway community.

"It has been a tough year for everyone, and I feel it will be a great gesture to be able to bring some sunshine into the lives of youngsters who are less fortunate than ourselves," said Black, who has designed a three course menu for the youngsters in conjunction with their caregivers.

In addition Black has appealed to his patrons and the local community to get involved by donating a present that will be handed to each youngster at the Christmas party.

"That would be the cherry on the top for these boys and girls - a gift from someone they don't know that is gesture that their community cares for them," said Black.

"It is so uplifting that at a time when others are giving less due to the financial downturn, there are people like Chris who are reaching out more," said Julie Hornby from the Hillcrest Aids Centre.

"We have had a really busy Christmas season, but for that service we will be offering our fine food and personal service to folk who are not our usual patrons at The Aubergine," said Black. "And I am really looking forward to that."

Black will be collecting these presents at his restaurant in Old Main Road Hillcrest ahead of the Christmas party on December 21.
